Fidafruit, a thriving Liège-based company for over 70 years!

If you are reading our first blog post, it's because we hired a community manager a few months ago to grow our web presence. But what you may not know is that Fidafruit is already 71 years old!

Albert Di Cioccio, the Liège ice cream seller of Italian origin

Albert Di Cioccio is the son of Bernardo and Restituta, fruit and vegetable merchants from Atina in Italy who arrived in Liège at the beginning of the 1900s. At the age of 25 and an entrepreneur at heart, Albert launches his small ice cream business. He travels through the lovely streets of Liège with his van and delights the taste buds of the residents who never miss a date!

A winter diversification

Ice cream being primarily a summer must-have, Albert seeks to diversify during the long winter months. This is howhe ventures into the import of hazelnuts… Italian ones! Shortly after, he acquired a workshop in rue Sous-l’eau in Bressoux where he learned to cook Fiand Dattes. His work is bearing fruit and Fidafruit is founded. This second activity works so well that Albert says goodbye to his ice creams to concentrate all his energy on his new fruity trade.

Beyond borders

In 1975, Jacques, Albert's son, joins his father in his passion. A new breath for Fidafruit as new nuts and dried fruits enter the range. And these are no longer confined to the Liège region, but extend beyond our Belgian borders. The company continues to prosper. After having rented all the available garages in their neighbourhood, Jacques and Albert decide to construct a building in a brand new Industrial Zone, on the outskirts of the city of Liège. The following year, to meet the high demand, Fidafruit expanded again! A second hall was built, housing a magnificent roasting oven and a coating line. In addition to its packaging activity, Fidafruit is now a roaster !

A family story

In 1993, Albert takes his well-deserved retirement. His son Jacques, with his already long experience, succeeds him at the head of the company., accompanied by his wife. It is indeed thanks to Mrs. Di Cioccio that Fidafruit becomes the first company in Belgium to produce delicious hampers, consisting of dried fruits and confectionery for the end-of-year celebrations. Still today, it is Mrs. Di Cioccio who creates new compositions every year, for the delight of young and old!

In the early 2000s, other family members joined the Fidafruit adventure! It is now the turn of Julien, Anthony and Raphaël, the sons of Jacques and Mrs. Di Cioccio, to enter the world of dried fruit, which he already knows inside out.

Fidafruit today

Starting from an initial import of Italian hazelnuts, Fidafruit has grown considerably and now exports its quality products throughout Europe and beyond.

An already thriving company that, since 2021, has been taking its first steps on the web, with the help of a page Facebook et LinkedIn. And through this blog, which for its first article tells the story of a small itinerant ice cream seller from Liège, who decided to offer sunshine to snack on.
